Ye Olde Bell and Steelyard

February 2012

The fire is burning in the grate, outside the wind is howling and the rain horizontal, inside we are as warm as toast enjoying great company, good honest home made food and our favourite tipples.

With the New Year comes a few changes and some new activities...

Curry Nights.  The Thursday Curry Nights have been a resounding success, however we are planning to introduce Themed Thursdays, offering authentic dishes from Asia & Europe carefully chosen and using fresh ingredients.  Again we will be aiming for a target price of £7.95 including a drink...watch this space!

Diner's Loyalty Card. Our new loyalty scheme for diners is now up and running.  Collect 1 stamp for each main course taken.  Once 5 stamps have been collected, the full card can be redeemed at the bar as £5.00 discount on a meal.  To get your first card or a replacement one, please just ask at the bar..

Real Ale.  The February real ale list sounds tantalising with some really unusual but interesting offerings.

Full details, along with tasting notes can be downloaded from the 'drinks' page.

A Good Yarn.  Starting on 10th January from 7pm to 9pm an evening of knitting, crochet, crafts and fun. Chase away those January blues by wrapping yourself up with your yarn and some good company.

All skill levels welcome, from complete beginner to those who knit a pair of socks on the same needle at the same time (just dont ask me how!).

If well supported this will become a regular event, most likely monthly.

Chess Club.  Tammie is looking to start a Chess Club at the pub on Thursdays, there has already been a lot of interest and we need to plan this carefully.  The plan is to welcome all levels of play, but we would appreciate ideas & suggestions from more experienced players.

New Website.  You are viewing our new website.  We would really appreciate your feedback, so please tell us what you think..  It is much more modern and 'fresher' than the old one, which for us had a homely rustic charm - but we have to move with the times.

New Staff.  We are delighted to welcome Heather on to the team.  She has extensive experience working behind the bar, most recently at The Trappist Monk in Norwich and is a devotee of Real Ale!  She joins Rosie and Tori to form a great Bar Team.

Sandor Ver (aka Alex) joins us as Sous Chef and is already making his mark.  Alex is a very competent Chef, he specialises in Italian food, and if you can sweet talk him into cooking his national Hungarian dishes - you are really in for a treat!

We look forward to seeing you again soon,

Best wishes,

Siggi, Adrian & the team at Ye Olde Bell & Steelyard.
